Podivice lies at 556 metres above sea level. The name is derived from Podiv – a strangely behaving man. The first reference to the village dates back to 1352 when it was a part of Kralovice demesne. In the 16th and 17 th centuries Podivice was owned by Trčkas of Lípa. After their property was confiscated, Burian Ladislav of Valdštejn acquired the village in 1636. From 1654 it belonged to Martinice demesne. In 1785 the village was purchased by Karel Josef Palm, Count of Gundelfingen. There used to be two ponds in the village, from which the Podivický creek flew out and joined the Želivka river. In 1850 a municipal authority was established here inferior to the district authorities of Ledeč nad Sázavou. Today the village is administered by Kaliště.
The children attended the school in Kaliště. In 1934 a school was established in Podivice. The school was built by the people of the village. On 26 June, 1973 the school closed and the children started to attend the school in Kaliště again.
In 1921 a fire brigade was founded and a fire deposit was built by the local people a year thereafter. In the 19 th century a chapel with a spirelet. Next to the chapel stands a cast iron cross dated 1861. In 1924 a local library was founded. In 1948 electricity was introduced to the village. In 1953 a minority farm was established. In 1959 bus service was launched. In 1981 a sewerage system was constructed.
The number of inhabitants reached its maximum in 1900, when there were 268 people in the village. On 1 January, 1980 the village went under the administration of the municipal authority of Kaliště. Nowadays there live 25 inhabitants and there are 38 houses.
