Huntsmen´s Union of Kaliště

The huntsmen´s union of Kaliště covers the cadastral area of 1808 hectares including Kaliště, Horní Rápotice, Proseč and Podivice. Presently the union has 20 members who look after the game by feeding it in winter and by building and repairing cratches. They build deer-stands for hunting roe deer and black game and set out ducks on pond „Loupežník“ to fowl in autumn. Roe deer and black game prevail and cause considerable damage on crops in fields. Some union members specialize in hunting the game to the benefit of the union. As regards the ground game, there are limited numbers of hares, partridges and pheasants in the area. The union owns two dogs, a terrier and bloodhound and a greyhound. The union members helped build the clubroom in Kaliště, which they use for meetings. Vermin and black game are hunted four times a year. A hunters´ ball organized in Kaliště by the union every year at the beginning of January has already become a tradition and it is attended by many people who are, among others, attracted by a great tombola. Josef Martinec of Horní Rápotice is the chairman of the union and Vladimír Dvořák of Proseč is in the position of bookkeeper.

Voluntary Fire Brigade

The voluntary fire brigade was founded in 1886. Its founder and first commander was František Vacek. Josef Marek was elected fire brigade chairman as well as chairman of the village. There were 19 members of the crew. The crew had a two-wheeled manually powered fire engine for which a wooden shed was set up. In 1891 the fire engine was replaced with a four-wheeled one housed in a firehouse built for that purpose. In 1936 the crew had 15 members. On 7 July, 1937 at about 11 o´clock at night Kratochvíl´s inn caught fire. After that a motor fire engine made by firm R.A.Smekal- Slatiňany was bought and consecrated. The fire brigade participated in many contests and fire drills organized both for men and children many of whom achieved numerous victories. The fire crew brought culture into the village as well, because they organized balls, May pole chopping and other events. In 1969 a more modern fire engine PPS 12 was bought and it has been in use ever since. On 10 August, 1996 the 110th anniversary of the foundation of the voluntary fire brigade of Kaliště was celebrated. There was a contest of two young firemen teams. In 1986 the machinery was moved from its original location in the firehouse in the middle of the village green to a new one in a multi-purpose building. On Easter Monday, 3 April, 1999 a part of the former cooperative farm almost burnt to ashes (hayloft next to cow house). Several firemen from Kaliště participated in fighting the fire from shortly after 12 o´clock. The fire brigade is still active today and now it has 45 members commanded by Jaroslav Zadina and chairman Miroslav Čapek senior. The crew members take active part in voluntary work for the village, as well as in many cultural events, such as masked processions, organization of children´s day etc.

Pioneer Unit Jitřenka Kaliště

In the beautiful valley called “Bělice” there is a house, whose owners were the Kuchař´s. A few fields, a meadow and woods belonged to that house, too. The owner was a blacksmith. Although his forge was quite a way from the surrounding villages, he was always busy. When his older son Josef had married, he got the house and followed in his father´s footsteps as a blacksmith. Josef had the house rebuilt and enlarged the forge. However, he soon died. After the introduction of cooperative farms there was still less and less to do. Usual farming tools stopped being used. The house was sold to the town of Humpolec and it was adapted to become a centre of recreation. The town of Humpolec rented this building to a pioneer unit “Jitřenka” Kaliště on 4 October, 1993 for twenty-five years. The rent is not charged and the pioneer unit is obliged to finance maintenance, repairs and finishing works on the building. A number of major changes has been made. Every year many people from all the Czech Republic come to relax at Bělice. Youth camps are organized here, as well as “a school in the nature” and meetings with new schoolmates in the new school.

Jitřenka has 22 members today, ranging from pre-school aged children, to schoolchildren and students. Newcomers eager to meet new friends are always welcome. The pioneers meet every Friday in the clubroom, where they enjoy themselves, play many games and prepare for competitions. Camping skills contests are held twice a year and our children have already achieved numerous successes.

This year´s results of the Republic finals of “Tábornická stezka” (Camping path) in Litoměřice are very encouraging: the M-category sports column Petr Pipek, Majorová Petra and Kutišová Tereza were second with 139 points, in S-category, Majorová Monika, Pipková Lucka and Čapek Lukáš ended tenth with 118 points and in R-category, Novák Pavel, Kutiš Pavel and Kutišová Věra finished in the second place with 154 points. Overall, our team was in the second place after the team of Stráž pod Ralskem and before the team of Brno.

Jitřenka also takes part in various weekend stays throughout the Czech Republic and organizes traditional events such as a children´s carnival and a great children´s day in cooperation with other associations in the village.

Moreover, there is also a free time club (Volnočasový klub kamarád) organizing games and fun activities enjoyed both by adults and children. Children from surrounding villages who are not members of the pioneer unit attend the club.

Horseriding Club Trio Kaliště

The horseriding club Trio under the leadership of Josef Hnát takes part in many contests. Every year in autumn the club organizes the so called Hubert´s ride, which ends in the evening with a court trial with the provinces and a dance. There are 8 horses in its stable.

Gustav Mahler´s Sports Club Kaliště

The sports club was founded in 1999 as a citizens´ association whose aim is to support the development of sports and free time activities for all age groups in the village. At the time of its foundation the club had 12 members of the tennis club, which was joined by the angling club a year later. The sports club members participate in many sports events, as well as social and cultural activities held in the village. It is worth mentioning that every year our teams achieve outstanding results in the league of unregistered tennis players of Posázaví region and the Firms´ ice hockey league. The club organizes a traditional and renowned tennis tournament Kaliště open, a petanque tournament, football tennis matches and many other various sports events. However, the major focus of the club activities is on active ways of spending free time, either in playing fields or at fish ponds. Currently, the club has 31 members between the ages of 10 to 70. Pavel Čapek is the chairman, Jaroslav Záviška acts as secretary and Miroslav Čapek junior works as bookkeeper of the club.
